"The Black Knight Who Played Violin: The Music and Life of Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges"

African-French Chevalier de Saint-Georges was one of the most celebrated French composers and violinists of the 18th century. His musical contributions to symphonic and chamber music literature inspired many contemporaries, including Haydn and Mozart. He rose through racial discrimination and an active slave trade to become one of the most talented violinists and swordsmen in all of Europe. His work inspired the symphonie concertante, some of the first French chamber works, the gallant style, and highly technical violin concerti.

Quinton Morris Quinton Morris is Director of Chamber and Instrumental Music at Seattle University and is violinist/Artistic Director of The Young Eight.
