Tasting Notes returns on July 6 with an exciting new lineup of celebrated Seattle chefs and a delicious new twist! Hosted by SCMS Artistic Director James Ehnes and celebrity chef and New York Times best-selling author Kenji López-Alt, this one-of-a-kind evening brings SCMS musicians together with acclaimed Seattle chefs.

Tasting Notes returns on July 6 with an exciting new lineup of celebrated Seattle chefs and a delicious new twist! Hosted by SCMS Artistic Director James Ehnes and celebrity chef and New York Times best-selling author Kenji López-Alt, this one-of-a-kind evening brings SCMS musicians together with acclaimed Seattle chefs.


Guests will experience live chamber music, cooking demonstrations, and—new this year—a full dinner service featuring each chef’s creations, all unfolding on stage at the Triple Door. The event features table seating, with a four-course dinner served family-style to each table, (vegetarian option available). A wine pairing add-on featuring Gard Estate Wines will also be available for purchase.

Meet the Chefs

Kenji Lopez-Alt

J. Kenji López-Alt is a New York Times columnist and the author of the New York Times Best-Selling and James Beard Award-Winning cookbooks The Food Lab and The Wok. On YouTube, he is the host of the wildly popular Kenji’s Cooking Show with over a million and a half subscribers. He and his partner Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen co-hosts the popular cooking podcast The Recipe with Kenji and Deb. Kenji lives in Seattle with his two children where he spends his spare time systematically reviewing every teriyaki shop in the city.

Mutsuko Soma

Chef-owner of Kamonegi and Hannyatou, Mutsuko Soma is nationally recognized for her handmade soba and deep dedication to Japanese culinary tradition. After studying culinary arts in Seattle and training extensively in Japan, she returned to open some of Seattle’s most acclaimed Japanese restaurants. Soma is also a certified Sake Sommelier, Shochu Advisor, and WSET Level III holder.

Taichi Kitamura

Born in Kyoto and raised professionally in Seattle’s restaurant scene, Taichi Kitamura is the chef-owner of Sushi Kappo Tamura. Known for blending authentic Japanese technique with Pacific Northwest ingredients, he is a three-time James Beard Award nominee and winner of Beat Bobby Flay. His cooking reflects both precision and a strong connection to regional sourcing.

Christina Wood

Christina Wood is the founder and head chef of Temple Pastries, the beloved Seattle bakery known for its laminated pastries, breads, desserts, and ice cream. After launching as a croissant pop-up in 2018, Temple quickly became a city favorite. Wood is the author of Pastry Temple, a StarChefs Rising Star award recipient, and a 2026 James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker.
