Joeseph Kaufman has played the double bass since age twelve. In college, at the University of North Texas, Kaufman played part-time with the Fort Worth Symphony and Dallas Opera. After graduating, Kaufman joined the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. In 2005 Kaufman joined the Seattle Symphony, and in 2008 he was appointed assistant principal bass. Kaufman has served as principal bass of the Colorado Music Festival, the Verbier Chamber Orchestra, and assistant principal of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. Chamber music collaborations have included projects with James Buswell, Joshua Bell, and Dutch pianist and conductor Reinbert De Leeuw.
