String Quartet in D Major, Op. 18 No. 3

The first quartet Beethoven composed, it looks back to Haydn and Mozart with the ideals of the ‘Classical’ period. This early work plays with dynamics to offer the listener a new sonic world.

String Quartet in E minor, Op. 59 No. 2

While the work features rather simple melodic writing, Beethoven explores much more complex harmonic language in this particular quartet.

String Quartet in F Major, Op. 135

Smaller in scope than the other quartets from this period, this was the final completed work by Beethoven before his death.
