Clive Greensmith //
Cello
Cellist Clive Greensmith was a member of the Tokyo String Quartet from 1999 until 2013, giving over one hundred performances each season. Previously, he held the position of principal cellist of London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, he has appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, and the RAI Orchestra of Rome, among others. He has collaborated with such distinguished musicians as Leon Fleisher, Claude Frank, Steven Isserlis, Lynn Harrell, Alicia de Larrocha, Midori, András Schiff, and Pinchas Zukerman. A regular visitor at many international festivals, Mr. Greensmith has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, Salzburg Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Pacific Music Festival, and Music@Menlo. Recordings with the Tokyo String Quartet include the complete Beethoven quartets and the Mozart “Prussian” quartets. Mr. Greensmith studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, and continued his studies at the Cologne Musikhochschule. He is currently professor of cello and co-director of chamber music at the Colburn School. Clive Greensmith is a founding member of the Montrose Trio with pianist Jon Kimura Parker and violinist Martin Beaver.
