Jeremy began his musical studies on the piano at the age of 5 and started playing the cello at the age of 8. After growing up in Michigan, he attended The Juilliard School as a pupil of Harvey Shapiro and studied chamber music with Felix Galimir. When he was 21 yrs old he joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and upon completing his first season was invited by James Levine to join The Met Chamber Ensemble in its inaugural year.  After a sabbatical spent in New Zealand as Principal Cello of The Auckland Philharmonia, he returned to the Met and went on to complete his final season as a member of the orchestra in 2011.

Performing throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, Jeremy has participated in the music festivals of Aspen, Ravinia, Tanglewood, Seattle, La Jolla, Moab, Sarasota, Interlochen, and Music at Plush.  In 2003, he was asked by Renee Fleming to perform with her at the opening gala of Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall.  He has appeared as a cellist on The Late Show with David Letterman, Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and Mtv Unplugged and has performed with artists such as Paul McCartney, David Byrne, LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, The National, Sufjan Stevens, My Morning Jacket, Lupe Fiasco, She and Him, and Dirty Projectors. He has conducted twice at the LACMA Art + Film gala.

As a composer, his music has won the International Documentary Association Award (Narco Cultura), the AICP Award for Google’s first television commercial (Parisian Love), has been nominated for a Cinema Eye Honor, and has been named in NPR Music’s Favorite Songs of the Year. A 2015 Sundance fellow, Jeremy’s recent works include a piece for the Brooklyn Youth Chorus for an installation commemorating the 50th anniversary of Wave Hill in New York, the theme music for the Time documentary series A Year In Space, and the score to ESPN 30 for 30: First Pitch. Other notable projects include performing and arranging for YSL and Dolce & Gabbana, a chamber work for yMusic Ensemble, orchestrations for Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and collaborating with James Murphy on original music for the Broadway revival of Betrayal, directed by Mike Nichols. 2016 will see the premiere of a new duo for violin and mandolin, written for James Ehnes and Chris Thile, commissioned by the Seattle Chamber Music Society.

Equally at home as a singer, guitarist, and pianist, Jeremy is one half of Low City, a studio project with the producer and engineer Abe Seiferth. Jeremy serves on the board of directors for National Sawdust in Brooklyn, and currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
