The Concert Truck® Returns: A Summer Across King County

This summer, music is on the move.

From June 18 through July 6, The Concert Truck® returns for its most expansive Seattle Chamber Music Society tour yet—23 stops across all 9 districts of King County. As part of the SCMS Summer Festival, this marks the fifth consecutive Concert Truck summer residency with SCMS, continuing a growing tradition of bringing free chamber music performances directly into communities across the region.

Parks, plazas, schools, farmer’s markets and neighborhood gathering spaces —wherever the truck can park, the music begins.

A Stage Without Walls

Since Seattle Chamber Music Society’s 2025 acquisition, The Concert Truck has become a cornerstone of SCMS’s mission to make classical music more accessible, immediate, and connected to everyday life.

A mobile concert hall housed in a box truck—complete with lights, sound, and piano—it transforms familiar spaces into places of shared discovery. No tickets. No barriers. Just music, performed up close.

With this summer’s expanded schedule, that vision reaches further than ever before with 23 stops in all 9 districts of King County, including fan favorites like Bellevue Botanical Garden, Pier 62 and Westlake Park along with new locations- Tukwila Community Center, Ober Park on Vashon Island, Federal Way Town Square Park, Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, Liberty Park, Lake Sammamish State Park, and Seattle Center.

Celebrating 10 Years

This year also marks the 10-year anniversary of The Concert Truck—a decade of redefining where and how music is experienced.

Led by co-founder and Maryanne Tagney Director of The Concert Truck Susan Zhang, the program has grown from humble beginnings as a student project at the University of South Carolina’s School of Music, into a nationally recognized model for community engagement.

From its debut in Spring 2016—when co-founders Susan Zhang and Nick Luby launched a prototype with a 5-day, 8-concert tour in Columbia, SC—The Concert Truck has grown rapidly, acquiring its first vehicle in 2017 and expanding to multi-state touring. By 2019, a stage extension enabled full chamber music performances, including appearances at the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival. In 2020, the organization adapted during the pandemic with a children’s program reaching 55,000 students and collaborations with the Kennedy Center Washington National Opera. Momentum continued with artist management representation by Opus 3 Artists in 2021, followed by the launch of a second truck and its first residency with Seattle Chamber Music Society in 2022. The creation of an official artist roster in 2023 further expanded its reach, culminating in its 2025 acquisition by Seattle Chamber Music Society, with Susan Zhang named Maryanne Tagney Director of The Concert Truck.

“When we started The Concert Truck, the goal was simple—to make music feel immediate, personal, and part of everyday life. Ten years later, that mission feels more relevant than ever.”

What began as a single truck and a bold idea now connects thousands of listeners each year—many experiencing live classical music for the first time.

Looking Ahead

The momentum continues.

A new Concert Truck is now in production and will be adding to the fleet this summer, expanding SCMS’s ability to reach new communities both regionally and nationwide. With it comes the opportunity to grow the number of partnerships with arts organizations, broaden educational programs, and bring this model to even more audiences across the country.
