Geoffrey Block Lecturer

Present

Distinguished Professor of Music History Emeritus at the University of Puget Sound, Geoffrey Block has published widely on Charles Ives, American musical theater and film, Beethoven, and Schubert.  His recent books include The Richard Rodgers Reader (2002), Richard Rodgers (2003), Experiencing Beethoven: A Listener’s Companion (2017), and Schubert’s Reputation from His Time to Ours (2017).  He is also general editor of the Yale Broadway Masters series and series of Oxford’s Broadway Legacies.  For many years he has presented pre-concert lectures at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and show talks at the Fifth Avenue Theater.  He is currently writing two books for Oxford University Press, one on the film musical Love Me Tonight and the other, A Fine Romance: Broadway and the Hollywood Film, on the symbiotic relationship between stage musicals and film from the 1920s to the present.
