Frank Kowalsky Clarinet

Frank Kowalsky has performed as principal clarinetist with orchestras throughout the United States, including the Naples Philharmonic, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Northwood Orchestra, and the Rochester Philharmonic. He is in demand as a concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. Recent activities include regular performances with the Bellingham Festival, the Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, a tour to England as guest soloist with the Florida State Winds, and nation-wide and international concert tours with the Trio Con Brio (clarinet, cello, and piano), including performances in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, and in the Dvořák Hall in Prague. His recent premiere of Dan Coleman’s Quintet for Clarinet (after Elizabeth Bishop) in Seattle was met with enthusiastic critical acclaim. He premiered Scott McAllister’s Black Dog Rhapsody in Tallahassee, FL in 2002, and performed it with the Florida State Wind Orchestra in Jankoping, Sweden, in 2003. A member of the faculty at the Interlochen Arts Academy for 10 years, he has been Professor of Clarinet at Florida State University since 1984, and in 2001 was named the Joseph A. White Professor of Music. His students have won national and international competitions and hold positions in major orchestras and on college and university campuses throughout the country. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Catholic University of America.
