Ruth Palmer //
Violin

Ruth graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2000 with 1st class honors, the “Roth Prize” for best violin final recital and the “Lesley Alexander Award” for excellence. She studied at the Royal College of Music under Dr. Felix Andrievsky and was made the first ever recipient of the Ritterman Junior Fellowship at the Royal College of Music. While gaining an international reputation for her intense physical performances, deeply sonorous sound and championing of new music, Ruth won the Young British Classical Performer award at the 2007 Classical BRITs.


Ruth has performed across Europe and in the USA, Asia and Australia and also directed the “Academy of St. Martin in the Fields” from her violin. She has been featured in radio and television documentaries about Shostakovich and also appears as the protagonist in In Search of the Messiah a film about Stradivari which was screened on networks worldwide (including Australia, Israel, USA, and the UK) in addition to international broadcasts of her performances.


Collaborations include the UK and World premieres by composers such as Sir John Tavener and Geoff Palmer (Ruth’s father) as well as works by composer-players Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, Gabriela Montero and Gwilym Simcock.


Ruth plays the Yfrah Neaman Stradivari kindly loaned to her by his family.
