SCMS strives to bring additional chamber music-related events to our local communities. These events augment our ongoing programs and give people an opportunity to experience chamber music outside the concert hall. Below are some of our recent events:

Classroom visit with Great Composers' Listening Program

This March, one of our Chamber Music in the Classroom teaching artists joined Jeanne Bluechel at Wing Luke Elementary. Jeanne's lesson was accompanied by works for solo cello, including selections from the Bach Cello Suites.

Concert in the Backyard series

These Sunday morning concerts, held at KidsQuest Children's Museum in Bellevue, entertained children and their families. "Miss Marta" from 98.1 Classical KING-FM and various guest ensembles took musical trips to Europe, explored the sounds of percussion, flutes, strings and more.

Camden Shaw Recital

Cellist Camden Shaw, a 16-year-old sophomore at Bellevue's Newport High School, performed works by Bach, Bloch, and Kodaly with pianist Regina Yeh at Rose Hill Junior High School in Redmond in April 2006.

Zoka performances

Local musicians performed chamber music at Zoka Coffee Roaster and Tea Co. in the University and Greenlake neighborhoods of Seattle, enjoyed by many listeners in their 20s and 30s.

Violist David Harding and flutist Lorna McGhee taught a master class during Marrowstone in the City, held at The Overlake School in Redmond in August 2005.

Public reading of Two Scarlet Songbirds

Local children's author Carole Lexa Schaefer read Two Scarlet Songbirds, a book about Dvořák, to elementary school students at Greenlake Library.
