During the school year, SCMS sponsors visits by local teaching artists to middle and high schools in Seattle and on the Eastside.
Students are given the opportunity to witness a professional level of playing they can aspire to. Our teaching artists offer one-on-one coaching to help reinforce technical skills and chamber group coaching to improve ensemble playing and communication.
"I thought it was the coolest thing. I have never gotten up close and personal with live professional musicians." - Mark, 5th year cello
"The presence of the musicians-their actions and reactions-speak volumes to the students" - Aaron Hennings, Orchestra Teacher at Mercer Middle School
"I listen to a lot of heavy metal and punk rock, but watching the chamber music musicians was very exciting too!" - Michelle, 4th year violin
