Seattle Chamber Music Society

Community Activities

SCMS strives to bring additional chamber music-related events to our local communities, when situations and funding allow. These events give people who wouldn't necessarily seek out chamber music the chance to experience it, or build on opportunities during a specific Festival.

Recent Events include:

Concert in the Backyard series at the KidsQuest Children's Museum in Factoria Mall, Bellevue.
These Sunday morning concerts are for children ages 8 and younger and their families. "Miss Marta" from 98.1 Classical KING-FM and various guest ensembles have taken musical trips to Europe and explored the delights of Pink Percussion. A light breakfast is served before the concerts.

Recital given by cellist Camden Shaw, a 16-year-old sophomore at Bellevue's Newport High School, performing works by Bach, Bloch, and Kodaly with pianist Regina Yeah at Rose Hill Junior High School in Redmond in April 2006.

Chamber music performances with local musicians at Zoka Coffee Roaster and Tea Co. in the University and Greenlake neighborhoods of Seattle, enjoyed by many listeners in their 20s and 30s

Master class with Festival violist David Harding and flutist Lorna McGhee during Marrowstone in the City, the summer camp for members of the Seattle Youth Symphony held at The Overlake School in Redmond in August 2005

Public reading of Two Scarlet Songbirds, a book about Dvorak by local children's author Carole Lexa Schaefer at Greenlake Library, attended by public elementary school students

Open rehearsal and reception with composer Patrick Zimmerli and a trio of musicians as they prepared the world premiere of a new piece, enjoyed by Summer Festival at Lakeside School attendees, as well as local university students
